National Hispanic Heritage Month

The Museum recognizes the incredible contributions of Latino volunteers in the Peace Corps and the communities in Latin American countries that hosted them. Physician and 2017 Loretta Miller Ruppe Award winner Leonardo Alonso is a Cuban-American who served in Honduras from 1982-1984.  Dr. Alonso, a native Spanish speaker, imagined his language skills would be an asset during service.  Read his story about circumstances that made him reevaluate this belief.

The Museum would like to increase representation from the Latino community in the collection.  Please share this message with those who might be interested in supporting our efforts.
